MarathonPigeons.com: Tell us how you discovered the passion for pigeons, at what age, what was the beginning like, who initiated youin this sport and where you got the most important information in the field.

Mihai Bodor: My first contact with these brilliant birds was at the age of 13, when a neighbor invited me to see the poultry where he kept his pigeons.

I found them to be extremely beautiful and intelligent, so I went home with my first pigeon. That’s how a passion that will never cease was born. I lived in an appartment building and built a cage for pigeons on the balcony. My parents weren’t too excited, so from time to time they would release my pigeons and ruin my cage. At the age of 18, I gave up the pigeons for a while, because I did not have adequate space for growing them. But my passion for pigeons has never disappeared. In 2016, by moving to a house, I fulfilled my dream, that of having a pigeon cage. I bought the pigeons from various farms, after which I started to fly them and participate in competitions with them. In the autumn of the same year, I won the 1st place in a competition stage with the chicks. That gave me confidence in the birds that I had and made me continue.

Most of the information I have is from personal experience, given by the observation and testing of the pigeons, but also from the advice of famous breeders, such as Iulian Mălinche, Elisei Eacobuta, Romeo Turluianu.

MarathonPigeons.com: How important is family support for you in practicing this noble sport?

Mihai Bodor: I managed to pass on some of my passion tom my wife, so she is always by my side, especially during the competition season. Together we apply the Lasota vaccine to chickens, go to trainings and wait together for the returning of the racing pigeons.

MarathonPigeons.com: Tell us the story of Leonidas, how long have you had him, how did he get into your possession, what pedigree does he have?

Mihai Bodor: Leonidas was born in my poultry in March 2016, from a pair of my pigeons. The male comes from the farm of Iulian Mălinache, and the female from the Turluianu family farm. It was flown since he was just a chick, showing speed from the first competitions, and always arriving first or second from all the chicks in my farm. Leonidas’s father is the grandson of Lucky 848 De Rauw-Sablon and Hermesa Galactica, a super-flyer.

MarathonPigeons.com: What else can you tell us about Leonidas?

Mihai Bodor: I sensed, early enough, that Leonidas is a very special pigeon. The pleasure of flying (when the other pigeons arrive from flight, he flies by the farm a few more times), his way of interacting with the other pigeons, withdrawn, anticipating what is about to happen, but especially his nocturnal arrivals from competitions, all these describe him best – a top pigeon, a true champion.

MarathonPigeons.com: What plans do you have for the future? Did you intend to continue investing in pigeons? Can you buy others? Do you follow certain families that grow pigeons? In short, what will you keep and what do you want to change in the future?

Mihai Bodor: The past and the present determine the future, so at this moment, because of the results I have, I can only look with joy and confidence at what the future will bring was born for me and my pigeons. In the last few years we have acquired a number of valuable pigeons from the top breeders, which I expect to highlight through their offspring, in future competitions.

At this point, I believe that I have been able to develop certain techniques, tricks, in the motivation of the pigeons and that is why I will continue what I do today.
