Interview with a pigeon fancier: “All my flying pigeons are relatives”

Cordeanu Vasile is a pigeon grower from Vaslui, Romania. He has great performances and he is a pigeon lover since he was 8 years old. In his farm from Chitoc village, 7 km from the Vaslui town, he raises 66 pigeons, of which 8 have been auctioned.

MarathonPigeons.com: What were your first steps as a pigeon fancier?

Vasile Cordeanu: I bought my first pigeons at 8 years old, from Professor Dominte, and also from mr. Chitoc. I had an offspring out of two pigeons that flew back from Gdansk, and my pigeons still have their bloodline. All my flying pigeons are relatives.

MarathonPigeons.com: Which pigeons from your farm brought you the best results?

Vasile Cordeanu: The first national result appeared in 2010, with pigeon 1131766/08, which was the 15th place in the National Marathon.

In 2012, I paired the offsprings from this female with pigeons from Stefan Butucanu.

From the female from Mr. Butucanu I reproduced a son, of which I had 4 brothers that won the top county and national contests, of which also the female champion 0101410/12, the 1st place National As Marathon Palmares 3 years in a row.

In 2014 her nest brother, 0101409/12 was the champion of As Fond and As Marathon. After that he got lost, probably getting caught by an eagle.

The pigeon 0100094/12 has 19 stages classified at Fond and Marathon, 4 years Fond Palmares and 4 years Marathon, several places 1 in the county of which also one record breaking. And his nest sister, 0100093/12 has performances in Palmares Fond. The two pigeons were part of the second series.

From a brother of these 4 pigeons, I managed to reproduce two silver medal winners of National Top.

Also a son of 0101407/12, pigeon 0152731/14 got 13th place in National Palmares As marathon 2018

But my best year was 2018, when I won the 1st Marathon Growing Palmares and the 2nd Growing Marathon, with the two grandchildren from Champion: 0277166/15 and 077925/16.

MarathonPigeons.com: Where did you buy the pigeons from?

Vasile Cordeanu: I purchased them in 2011 from Stefan Butucanu and in 2012 from Mr. Lazăr Paraschiv from Tulcea and from Florentin Asmarande, from Iasi, all of them Romanians.

I also made good purchases from Daniel Magirescu, Gheorghe Preda and Adrian Racoviță, from Huși. I bought chicks from their best pigeons, Menne, Batenburg, Gerard van Tuyl, some of the best known and largest in the world.

MarathonPigeons.com: What pigeons do you keep for breeding?

Vasile Cordeanu: I never kept more than 5 pigeon pairs for breeding. Instead, I breed from the best flyers and their chicks yet another series of chickens. This year, I breed three pigeons with results, three bought and 4 from my own yard.
